THIS WEEK IN SPORTS: Goff To Make First Start For the Los Angeles Rams

Goff To Make First Start For the Los Angeles Rams

LOS ANGELES-THE Los Angeles Rams fan voices have finally been heard! NO. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Quarterback Jared Goff will make his NFL Debut this Sunday, November 20th, as they host the surging Miami Dolphins.

Head Coach Jeff Fisher has caved into the pressure from the rabid fan base clamoring to see the new kid in town, the media, and ultimately the shaky play from starter Case Keenum left him no other option. Keenum comes off a sloppy 9-6 victory over the New York Jets, where the The Rams failed to reach the end zone yet again. Currently, the Rams rank dead last in points per game at 15.4, Keenum has thrown for 2,169 yards, 9TD”s and 11 interceptions. It was the perfect time for a switch.

The Los Angeles Rams are 4-5 on the season, 3rd in the NFC West, and are fighting for a Wild Card spot to reach the playoffs. Other rookie QB’s have found instant success ahead of the curve, for instance, Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why did Goff sit on the bench for so long? Well, his performance in Training camp and pre-season was terrible. In four exhibition games, he only threw for 232 yards, 44% completion percentage and four turnovers. Fisher seemed perturbed and angry evaluating his prized rookie.

“He isn’t ready for the speed of the game yet,” said Fisher earlier this year.

This Sunday, the Rams return to the Coliseum to face the vastly improving Miami Dolphins. Coming off a thrilling 31-24 victory at San Diego last week, the Dolphins sit at 5-4, and are poised to make a playoff run. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. The game will air on Fox 11.

Crosstown Rivalry Renewed Saturday Night At The Rose Bowl

PASADENA- Although the UCLA Bruins season has crumbled, with a disappointing 4-6 record, redemption can be attained Saturday night, when the #13 USC Trojans visit the Rose Bowl at 7:30 p.m. It’s shaping up to be a striking, crisp night-perfect football weather. It’s the 86th instalment of the Crosstown Rivalry.

These Trojans are dangerous and explosive after a disastrous 1-3 early record, USC has rebounded by reeling off six victories in a row. Enter True Freshman Quarterback, Sam Darnold. He has thrown for 2,161 yards, 22 TD’s, riding the momentum of a victory over #4 Washington Huskies this past Saturday in Seattle.

USC stands at 7-3, with an outside shot of winning the PAC-12 South crown, if Colorado and Utah both lose, a Trojans victory would punch their ticket for the PAC-12 Championship on December 2nd. The Victory Bell is at stake, it’s painted red due to last year’s decisive USC 40-21 victory at the Coliseum.

Starting out as a top 25 team, the Bruins season quickly spiraled out of control; a slow painful demise with a series of devastating losses by 10 pts. or less. Adding insult to injury, the Bruins star Quarterback Josh Rosen season was ended by a shoulder injury, prompting surgery. The Bruins ended their four game skid against Oregon State on Saturday night, defeating the Beavers by a score of 38-24.

The Bruins must win their final two games of the season in order to be bowl eligible, and finish with a .500 record. Should the Bruins drop either game, it will be their first losing season since 2011.

The majesty and history of the Rose Bowl is never taken for granted by player or coach. “I don’t think there is a better setting, iconic like Yankees Stadium or Wembley, just a fantastic venue,” said Bruins Defensive Coordinator Tom Bradley.

USC leads the series 45-31-7, but the home field advantage is vital since the Bruins have won the last two meetings at the Rose Bowl, in 2012 and 2014. UCLA is a twelve point underdog. How does UCLA pull off this monumental, Presidential-Sized upset(too soon)?

It comes down to the best defense in the Conference, which is allowing only 195 yards per game, and 160 yards on the ground. Linebacker Jayon Brown is approaching 100 tackles, and Defensive End Tak McKinley has been phenomenal. Recording 10 Sacks and 46 Tackles For Loss.

“Our guys take care of the little things, meaning they’re disciplined and prepare the same way every time they go out on that field,” said Bradley. Bradley was hired on February, 25th 2015 and has transformed the defense, making the Bruins D- their calling card. In UCLA history, that hasn’t occurred often

Rivalry week and college kids equals pranks. To avoid any mascots from being vandalized, USC has duct taped Tommy Trojan. While in Westwood, the Bruin Bear is in a black box with a sign that reads: The Bear Is Hibernating!

In case you can’t be there in person, the game will air on ESPN. Battle lines have been drawn: CHOOSE A SIDE!

Christopher Floch

Christopher Floch was born in 1985. At birth, he was born with a condition named: Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. Arthrogryposis is when your joints are in a fixed postition, and unable to bend.(Sidebar: it's the same disability as the journalist from the New York Times, who President Donald Trump shamefully insulted) Floch was enamoured by the news at an early age. Even waking up at the crack of dawn to catch the morning's top headlines, so he'd break the story the moment his family awoke. Unfortunately, he never got an opportunity to hone his craft, as many advisers were close-minded, and he was denied several times for Newspaper/Yearbook in High school. The heroes of this tale are surprisingly, Community College and Underemployment; both factors proved instrumental as fate would have it. In his brief career, he has covered two Super Bowls, UCLA and USC football. The Los Angeles Dodgers and three Rose Bowls. In his spare time, he loves to spend time with his nephew, Liam. He drinks far too many sodas, however, he will swear it's all a big conspiracy. He loves Rock music, and is glad to share why Kobe is better than LeBron! The man is a card, the jester. He thinks he is funnier than he truly is! GOD BLESS
