Yerek Godfrey at Figaro

Art Meets Architecture and Alicia Coppola are pleased to present, Yarek Godfrey’s The French Connection at Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, in participation with French Restaurant, Les Noces Du Figaro. The French Connection explores the human psyche, motivations and sex.  Dark, emotional undertones are confronted, relenting at times to beauty, light and the like. The duality of Godfrey’s female figure demands a reckoning while allowing for fantasy. Set in Downtown Los Angeles, on famed Broadway Street, The French Connection engages in the theater of life. Godfrey explains:

“The almost primitive, and for me, the natural need to express the mix of joy, anguish and solitude is always emotional and magical, like an initiation rite. It is the way to communicate without words and to share profound feelings with the risk of revealing too much… of becoming weak by exposing one’ s own nature.”

As a classically trained artist, Godfrey studied for 10 years at the College and Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland. Along with his technical mastery, Godfrey is a student of humanity, building dramatic narratives of figurative subjects that are revealed through a subtle, monochromatic palette. In totality, Godfrey’s willful artistry arrives in its ability to blend past and present into one, creating a timeless subject.  Born in Poland, Godfrey is a French citizen, and since the 1980s has worked from his studio in Paris. Internationally well received, he has a celebrated realm of exhibitions in Krakow, Paris, Strasbourg, Monaco, d’Angers, Cannes, Montreal, Hanover Germany, New York, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Godfrey’s The French Connection, at Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, is on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6 to 10pm and is free and open to the public at Les Noces Du Figaro, 618 Broadway, Los Angeles, CA.
